Kiran Nadar
Founder, Chairperson, Kiran Nadar Museum of Arts
Trustee, Shiv Nadar Foundation
An avid art collector, Kiran Nadar’s fascination with contemporary art sparked in 1989. What began as an interest in furnishing her home instilled a passion for collective artsmanship leading to the launch of India’s first private art museum in 2010. Forbes Asian Magazine acknowledged Mrs Nadar as a “hero of philanthropy” for showcasing Indian contemporary art and encouraging everyone to embrace the museum experience.
Since then, she’s taken every initiative to enable the museums to represent an encyclopedic collection that encourages enthusiasts to find their muse. With this, she hopes to make the world of art more accessible while offering an academic and comprehensive perspective.
With years of experience under her wing, Kiran Nadar is an esteemed patron for several organizations like the Museum of Modern Art, New York, where she is an International Council member. She works closely with private institutions, such as the Rasaja Foundation founded by renowned critic and art historian Jaya Appasamy. Fundamental in nature, these projects have helped unlock cultural transformations and uplift the social umbrella. A notable project, with the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, took her to the most remote parts of Uttar Pradesh promoting education for the Dalit and Muslim girl children.
While her fervour for art is unparalleled, Kiran Nadar’s ingenuity masters many worlds. She is a principal member of the “Formidable”, a group comprising esteemed Indian bridge players, and has scored several laurels for the country. She is known for helping India secure the Gold title in Australia’s 5th Commonwealth Nations Bridge Championship. This broke a spell of nearly twelve years where India had not won a Gold title.
With a wealth of experience to her backing, Kiran Nadar is passionate about inspiring the people of tomorrow. She strongly advocates education and is the Trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, which has helped shape several educational initiatives in the country through the SSN College of Engineering, Shiv Nadar University, VidyaGyan schools, and Shiv Nadar School.
