Where Light Falls is a three-day street and documentary photography workshop that approaches black and white not as a filter, but as a way of seeing. Stripped of colour, the image reveals its essential elements: light, shadow, texture, geometry, and human presence. The workshop moves through three stages: understanding, making, and presenting, culminating in a pop-up display of participants’ work at KNMA.

The first session introduces the visual grammar of monochrome, focusing on tonal contrast, composition, and reading scenes for narrative moments. Participants then move into a street-based photowalk, working with light, movement, and observation to develop images. The final session focuses on editing and curation, where participants refine their work and collaborate on a collective display, translating images from screen to exhibition format.

Through this process, participants engage with photography as both practice and reflection, exploring how black and white can intensify mood and distil visual experience into its essential form.

Designed for adults (18+), the workshop is open to all levels and encourages a thoughtful, process-led approach to image-making. Participants are required to bring a digital camera or smartphone and a laptop with basic editing software.

About the Artist

Komal Bedi Sohal is a New Delhi–based street and documentary photographer with over three decades of practice. Her work has been exhibited internationally across India, France, the United States, Russia, and Australia. She is the recipient of the La Vie en Bleu International Photography Residency (2024, Nice) and the author of Chola Maati (Mapin, 2025). Her practice focuses on long-form visual storytelling and sustained, process-driven engagement with image-making.
