Unearthing Echologies is a methods series workshop exploring sound recording and acoustic ecology at KNMA
Join us for a three-day immersive workshop by beatnyk, exploring Delhi's dawn chorus through on-site field recording, application based sound design, and the creation of sonic archives as a practice of environmental listening and preservation.

Unearthing Echologies is a three-day immersive workshop bringing together sound art, acoustic ecology, and speculative sound design to explore listening as a way of engaging with environmental change. The programme invites participants to record and respond to the dawn chorus of Delhi, transforming field recordings into layered sonic narratives.

The workshop begins with an early morning sound walk, where participants practise deep listening while recording the shifting acoustic landscape of the city. Set within sites such as Jahanpanah City Forest, the session focuses on observing the relationship between natural soundscapes and urban noise, capturing the balance between the two.

The second phase takes place at KNMA, where participants work with open-source software to learn the fundamentals of sound design and editing. Approaching themselves as future archivists, they reimagine their recordings as speculative soundscapes, weaving together environmental audio with personal archives, spoken word, and memory.

The workshop concludes with an open listening session, where participants present their compositions within a shared space of reflection and discussion. This final phase transforms the studio into a temporary listening environment, encouraging dialogue around sound, noise, and ecological awareness.

Designed for participants interested in sound, environment, and interdisciplinary practice, the workshop offers an exploratory, process-driven approach to understanding listening as both a creative and critical act.
