TYEB MEHTA Bearing Weight FEATURED EVENTS
Restricted Palettes is a four-part Saturday Family Workshop series that explores how colour behaves through limitation, relationship, and perception. Drawing from TYEB MEHTA’s practice, the series invites participants to understand how minimal colour systems can create depth, tension, and visual intensity.
In this third session, Bezold Effect and Tessellation, participants explore how small changes in surrounding colours can significantly alter the way an image is perceived, even when the primary colours remain the same. Through guided exercises, they observe how shifts in colour placement transform contrast, balance, and overall visual impact.
Working with structured, repeating patterns and a limited palette, participants experiment with tessellation and colour variation to understand how perception changes through proximity and arrangement. The workshop introduces colour as a dynamic and relational element, shaped by its context rather than fixed identity.
Connecting these ideas to TYEB MEHTA’s practice, the session highlights how restricted palettes and controlled compositions can generate strong emotional and visual presence. Participants discover how subtle variations within a limited system can reshape meaning and intensify experience.
Designed for children and young adults, the workshop encourages close observation, experimentation, and a deeper understanding of how colour functions within an image.
