Exploring line, colour, and compositional balance through a structured drawing practice led by artist Neerja Peters, in dialogue with Tyeb Mehta’s work.

TYEB MEHTA Bearing Weight FEATURED EVENTS

This workshop invites participants to explore the relationship between line, colour, and compositional balance as tools for building harmony within an artwork. Led by artist Neerja Peters, the session draws from her practice, which is rooted in reduction, repetition, and the quiet discipline of form.

The workshop opens with a discussion on Peters’ approach to geometric abstraction, examining how rhythm, geometry, and controlled colour relationships create contemplative visual spaces. These ideas are placed in conversation with Tyeb Mehta’s practice, particularly his deliberate use of line, flat colour planes, and compositional structure to generate tension and psychological intensity.

Participants will then engage in a focused drawing exercise where line becomes the primary organising element.Through intersecting lines and measured colour application, they will explore how decisions around placement, proportion, and tone transform a surface. The session encourages a slower, process-driven approach where form evolves through attentive observation and experimentation.

The workshop concludes with a collective viewing and reflection, inviting participants to consider how individual works relate to one another. Through this process, participants experience how harmony can emerge both within a single composition and across varied responses to shared visual ideas.
