Skipping Time
13 Nov 2026
A performance exploring labour, migration, exploitation, and the body through the act of skipping.
In relation to KNMA’s ongoing exhibition Inheritors of Earth, visual and performance artist Murari Jha presents Skipping Time, a durational performance built around the simple, familiar act of skipping. Responding to the works of Ishita Chakraborty, the performance engages with themes of labour, exploitation, migration, and the loss of agency.
Through repetition and physical endurance, Jha examines the exploitation of both plants and humans, drawing connections with colonialism and cycles of apathy and violence. Moving beyond linear storytelling, Skipping Time invites audiences to engage with these themes through the artist’s sustained physical and psychological effort.
About the Artist
Murari Jha is an Indian visual and performance artist and educator based between Bihar and Delhi. His multidisciplinary practice explores the relationship between the body, memory, and power, approaching the body as both subject and archive of social history, trauma, and resistance. Working through performance, objects, and shared spaces, his work examines how socio-political conditions are experienced physically and psychologically. He holds a BFA from Patna University and an MFA from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University. His selected presentations include The Future of Nostalgia at Nature Morte (2026), Baggage from The Longest March at Nature Morte (2023), and Returning to Earth – A Kinder Search for Home, co-commissioned by Samdani Art Foundation and KNMA (2022–2023).
