Governance and People

Guided by the belief that education and culture can unlock human potential, the Shiv Nadar Foundation (SNF) supports Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) in making Indian and South Asian art accessible to all. Established in 1994 by Shiv Nadar, Founder–HCL, the Foundation has invested over USD 1.5 billion in building seven world-class institutions and initiatives across education, art, and culture to create a more equitable and humane society.

Over the last 30 years, the Foundation has directly impacted nearly 40,000 students and individuals through its educational institutions such as Shiv Nadar University, SSN Engineering Institute and Shiv Nadar School among others. Vidya Gyan, a pioneering leadership academy for meritorious students in rural India, focuses on building foundational skills and bridging the urban-rural divide. Holistic development and a spirit of inquiry are paramount for the Foundation, which extends into the adult literacy programme Shiksha. Pioneering the use of technology to eradicate illiteracy, the program converts literacy classes encompassing numeracy, reading and writing into interactive, computer-based tutorials. A replicable and scalable model, the initiative aims to cultivate generations of lifelong learners who further propound the values of the Foundation.

KNMA furthers the spirit of the Foundation by centre-staging Indian and South Asian artists on a global platform. As India’s first philanthropic private museum, KNMA has been able to display seminal works and legacies of celebrated and emerging artists and memorialise them in the vibrant, global artistic fraternity.
