TYEB MEHTA Bearing Weight FEATURED EVENTS

This Saturday Family Workshop explores charcoal as a medium of experimentation, transformation, and discovery. Drawing inspiration from TYEB MEHTA’s practice, the session focuses on how simple elements such as line, tone, pressure, and erasure can be used to create expressive visual forms.

Participants will experiment with mark-making, smudging, layering, and removal, discovering how charcoal can be manipulated to create depth, movement, and contrast. Rather than focusing on detailed representation, the workshop encourages participants to explore how forms emerge through tonal relationships, gesture, and process.

Through guided drawing exercises, participants will engage with ideas of weight, structure, light, and shadow while exploring approaches to composing images through diagonals and simplified forms. Designed for children and adults, the session encourages curiosity, experimentation, and an open-ended approach to drawing that values process as much as outcome.
