18 Jun 2026 - 19 Jun 2026
This two-day workshop introduces participants to the philosophy and techniques of Indian Wash Painting, a watercolour tradition that emerged through the Bengal School movement. Known for its subtle tonal variations, fluid brushwork, and atmospheric depth, the practice draws inspiration from Mughal miniatures, Ajanta murals, and East Asian painting traditions.
Through guided demonstrations and studio-based exercises, participants will explore layering, blending, tonal rendering, and brush control using wet-on-wet techniques. Focusing on the relationship between water, pigment, and paper, the workshop encourages an understanding of atmosphere, softness, and composition while developing a process-led approach to painting.
Working from personal landscape references, participants will experiment with building transparent layers of colour to create depth, mood, and visual richness. The workshop offers an opportunity to develop technical skills while engaging with the expressive and contemplative qualities of the medium.
