Exploring simplified portraits through bold shapes and colour, inspired by TYEB MEHTA’s expressive visual language.

TYEB MEHTA Bearing Weight FEATURED EVENTS

Unfurling Faces is a Saturday Family Workshop inviting children and adults to explore portraiture through simplification, abstraction, and emotional expression. Drawing from TYEB MEHTA’s visual language, the session examines how reducing the human figure into bold shapes and colour blocks can create powerful and expressive images.

Participants will create abstract portraits by breaking down facial features into simplified forms. Through colour and composition, they will experiment with how minimal elements can convey mood, tension, and expression, moving beyond likeness to explore emotional storytelling.

Designed for families to create together, the workshop offers an accessible introduction to abstraction while encouraging thoughtful experimentation. By focusing on reduction and clarity, participants discover how simplicity can deepen meaning and how strong visual narratives can emerge through form and colour.
