A guided walkthrough of the Tyeb Mehta centenary retrospective led by curator Srinivas Aditya Mopidevi, exploring the exhibition’s curatorial framework and key works.

TYEB MEHTA Bearing Weight FEATURED EVENTS

This curatorial walkthrough of TYEB MEHTA Bearing Weight (with the lightness of being) marks the birth centenary of one of India’s most significant modern artists. Led by Srinivas Aditya Mopidevi, Curator of Visual Arts at KNMA, the session offers insight into the curatorial thinking and exhibition design that shape this retrospective.

Bringing together over five decades of Mehta’s practice, the exhibition features more than 120 works across painting, drawing, sculpture, film, and archival material. The walkthrough explores how key thematic ideas such as precarity, tactility, tenacity, gravity, duality, and mythology structure the exhibition and trace the evolution of Mehta’s visual language.

Participants will also reflect on how the artist’s use of form, colour, and spatial tension positioned him within modern Indian art, while engaging closely with the exhibition’s narrative and visual organisation.
