About KNMA

Established at the initiative of the avid art collector Kiran Nadar, the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) opened its doors to the public in January 2010, as the first private museum of art exhibiting modern and contemporary works from India and the sub-continent. Located in the heart of New Delhi, KNMA as a non-commercial, not-for-profit organization intends to exemplify the dynamic relationship between art and culture through its exhibitions, publications, educational, and public programs.

KNMA functions as both a museum and a learning space, bringing together artists, curators, educators, students, and the wider public through meaningful engagement with art and culture.

About the Role

The Curator for Music at Kiran Nadar Museum of Art will play a pivotal role in curating vibrant and engaging music programs that complement and advance our mission of promoting cultural exchange and artistic exploration in all aspects of the performing arts. Working closely with internal teams, the Music Curator will conceptualize, plan, and execute a diverse range of music performances, festivals and workshops.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, select, and engage artists representing various music genres, including Hindustani, Carnatic, Western classical, folk, rock, pop, indie, fusion, etc., for standalone performances, festivals, ensembles, and other programming initiatives.
  • Develop innovative festival and thematic concepts that align with the museum’s larger curatorial vision and strategic goals, fostering interdisciplinary connections and engaging diverse audiences.
  • Curate music workshops aimed at educating and engaging younger audiences and the larger community.
  • Lead the implementation of music programming initiatives from conceptualization to execution, artist coordination and repertoire selection.
  • Maintain a pulse on emerging and established artists, trends and audience preferences through ongoing research, attendance at live performances, and engagement with the wider music community.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams to ensure seamless integration and promotion of music programs within the museum’s overall cultural programming.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Curation or a music-related field.
  • Background and specialization in one or more genres of music as a curator, performer, academic, or researcher, with a deep understanding of diverse musical traditions and styles.
  • Creative thinking skills to develop innovative and compelling music programming concepts that resonate with diverse audiences and advance the museum’s mission.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with artists, collaborators, and internal stakeholders.

Desirable Skills (but not Mandatory)

  • Relevant educational background, such as a degree in musicology, arts management, cultural studies, performing arts or any related field.
  • Prior experience working with cultural organizations.
  • Experience working with diverse audiences or stakeholders

What We Offer
