A workshop exploring fragmentation, unity, and collaborative art-making inspired by Tyeb Mehta.

TYEB MEHTA Bearing Weight FEATURED EVENTS

Inspired by modern Indian artist’s iconic fractured figures, this family workshop explores how forms that appear broken or separated can come together to create something powerful and whole. Drawing from Mehta’s Abstract Expressionist approach, families will engage with ideas of tension, connection, and emotional intensity through visual form.

Participants will work across three connected panels to create a single figure that spans multiple surfaces. Each section becomes a fragment of the larger composition, encouraging families to explore how stories, emotions, and identities can exist across different spaces while remaining connected. Through bold gestures, flat colours, and expressive lines, participants will experiment with how unity can emerge from fragmentation.

Designed for children and adults to create together, the workshop emphasises collaboration, with each family member contributing to a different part of the artwork. A final unifying line will bring the figure together across all panels, echoing Tyeb Mehta’s signature use of strong contours to hold movement and emotion within a single frame.
