A reflective workshop exploring asemic writing as a visual and embodied practice.

TYEB MEHTA Bearing Weight FEATURED EVENTS

Shabd–Nishabd introduces asemic writing, a form of mark-making that resembles text but exists beyond fixed linguistic meaning. Rooted in the idea that not all experiences can be expressed through words, the practice explores gesture, silence, and ambiguity as forms of expression. The approach resonates with Tyeb Mehta’s artistic language, where form and tension carry emotional depth without relying on narrative.

The practice was introduced to Rafooghar by Brazilian artist Lia Petrelli, who describes asemic writing as a “language of gestures” rooted in movement and expression.

Designed for those seeking a quiet, introspective experience, the workshop offers a safe space for reflection without the pressure to define meaning. Participants will leave with a deeply personal visual record that functions as a private, non-verbal language.
