As part of this celebration, Painted Threads offers participants the opportunity to blend watercolour and stitching into a single expressive artwork. Through this thoughtful and creative process, children and families will explore how texture, pattern, and narrative can emerge when thread meets colour on paper.
The session will begin with the creation of a watercolour base using layering, washes, and glazes. Participants will then plan and develop stitched patterns or motifs over their painted surface, transforming their artwork into a richly textured piece that holds both visual and tactile stories.
Taking inspiration from textile traditions and layered contemporary artworks, this workshop encourages slow looking, careful making, and imaginative storytelling.
Audience Takeaways:
● Learn to combine watercolour and stitching in a mixed-media format
● Explore stitching as a form of storytelling and mark-making
